How to motivate yourself to lose weight

The motivation to lose weight, like any other brilliant idea starts with your thought. Because you are reading this article, I trust that you have already thought about losing weight. If so GREAT, then you have already conquered the first step. The first step is the realization that you are not the best version of yourself. Only when you stop lying to yourself, only when you realize that the excuses you are making are the lies that you are deceiving yourself with, only then will the beautiful process of change start to inhabit your personality. Since you have already completed the first step, let us begin with the 2nd step.

STEP 2:

The second step is materializing your thoughts. To do that just measure your current weight, then take a pen and paper and write it down. Next set a realistic target you can achieve within just half a year, write it down as well. Now tell yourself why do you want to lose weight, you may or may not have a personal reason and that is okay. Just to let you know that losing weight is a really really good idea, I will list down the general point for you

Take a while, think about what can you exactly accommodate in your daily stupid monotonous routine and how far are you willing to stretch for yourself. Think how important you are to yourself, how much do you rank on your own priority list. And remember there is no such thing as “Take a cup of this tea before you go to bed and lose 5Kgs in a single Week.” Don’t be lazy and fall for such fallacies.

Now that you have done all of this, Congratulations! You have already completed the second step. You have already materialised your thought in your writing. Your thoughts are real now!

STEP 3:

Now that you have materialized your thoughts, I want you to read it every time before going to bed and after waking up. I know it sounds cliche, but you have to really believe that you can do it. This is where reading it aloud to yourself comes in handy. At first, it may feel stupid or vague, but once you continue to read them, the vagueness will slowly be replaced by strong emotions and burning desire. These very sentences will start invoking emotions inside you and you will start visualizing yourself as having already lost weight and being the best version of yourself (at least physically).

When you start reading these sentences with emotions while visualizing yourself as already having achieved your desired weight, that is when your subconscious begins listening to you. You keeping shouting relentlessly towards your subconscious until it is forced to drag its lazy ass out of the bed and starts taking the actions necessary. Fear not if you cannot figure out what the first action you should take is, for I will tell you that it is ‘investment’.

STEP 4:

The next step is to invest in a Gym membership and a good pair of gym clothes. Trust me when I tell you this, “Working out in Gym, under the supervision of a coach is the best way not only to lose weight but gain health.” The money that you invest will surely motivate you to keep visiting your gym often and remember you do not need to hit the Gym forever to develop a habit, in fact, you do not even need a month to make it a habit. All you need, according to the brilliant psychologist Jeremy Dean is 21 Days and I can personally vouch for this statement.

So remember you do not need to go to the Gym forever, you just need to do it for 21 days and the habit that you form will take care of it for you. At first, you will feel a bit out of place at the Gym but your supervisor will take care of everything for you. Make sure to do your warm-up exercises before you start lifting weights and start will small weights. I personally started with 2Kgs.

Take multivitamin tablets, it works wonders. At first, even 2Kgs will feel like an immense weight and you will feel like giving up every day when your body starts to ache but the pain will subside and once it does you will feel like a conqueror.

Besides the regular weight control, better heart health and other health benefits of working out regularly, there are a lot of Mental Health Benefits as well:

  • Stress Reduction: Stress normally builds up when you provide no outlet for its release. A great way of releasing those daily office or personal stresses is through workout. Exercise helps in increasing norepinephrine which is a great moderator of mental stress.
  • Improved Self Confidence: This effect not only comes from a better-looking physique but also because of the fact that you thought it would be impossible to benchpress 100 pounds but now you are doing it with relative ease. Initially, the pain in your body and the enormity of the task may demotivate you, when this happens remember your manuscript that you have written in Step 2. Also, remember who you are and whether you want to fall into the category of Winners or Quitters.

As the age old saying goes, “Winners never quit, Quitters never win.”

 

FINAL STEP

The final step is persistence. Keep at your task and continue doing what you HAVE to do. Do not become a quitter because inside every winner there was once a quitter that they strangled themselves, not with any extra smart intelligence or shrewdness but with sheer persistence. So continue working out and continue looking at yourself in the mirror. The improvement of your physique will definitely motivate you to start piling up weights to your dumbbell.
